We too encountered difficulties in comparing prices from energy providers.
We eventually contacted E.ON, which has a special StayWarm tariff for those on benefits or with disability/age-related difficulties. We had a free energy efficiency survey from our local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, and reduced our consumption by 20 per cent and our carbon footprint from 4.2 tonnes to 3.7 tonnes per year by following their advice.
We also took advantage of grants available to replace an old boiler, and had our loft insulated via the national Home Energy Efficiency Scheme. Help is also available from Age Concern, and financial help information from The Pension Service. We hope this information will be of use to other readers of your excellent magazine.
